Each year, SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) claims upward of 450,000 people according to the American Heart Association and OSHA. The survival rate of these events without an AED (automatic external defibrillator) present is under 10 percent; with an AED on site, the rate skyrockets to about 70 percent. Of these deaths, about 15 percent occur in the workplace. That means 67,500 people a year or 185 people will die at work each day as a result of SCA. How does this affect IMA members?
