Elect Someone Just Like You

A political action committee (PAC) is a mechanism for like-minded individuals to pool their resources and magnify their influence. PAC's are efficient and effective tools that have become a key component of the electoral process.

IMPAC is a "state only" PAC with no involvement in federal elections. The IMPAC Board of Directors, comprised of IMA member representatives appointed by the IMA chair, decides which candidates to support and the level of that support. Criteria for support is based upon which candidates best represent the views of the manufacturing community (for incumbent candidates, a multi-year IMA vote analysis is utilized), which races are expected to be the closest, and where the financial support will be most effective. Input from IMA members about specific candidates is critical to the decision-making process.

When manufacturers support IMPAC they are utilizing the most effective resources for targeting political contributions to those candidates who support manufacturers. The result is that manufacturers speak with a strong unified voice.

Rules Governing Contributions

Indiana law provides that both individuals as well as corporation and labor organizations may contribute to political action committees.

For individuals, there is no limit on the level of contributions. For corporations and labor organizations, aggregate annual limits are imposed as follows:

• Total among all candidates for all statewide offices: $5,000
• Total among all state committees of political parties: $5,000
• Total among all state Senate candidates: $2,000
• Total among all state House candidates: $2,000
• Total among all state Senate legislative party caucuses: $2,000
• Total among all state House legislative party caucuses: $2,000
• Total among all candidates for all local offices: $2,000
• Total among all central committees other than state committees: $2,000
